The Bishops of Andhra Region are on ADLIMINA visit to Vatican. All our Bishops will have audience with the Holy Father as Conference of the region and also individually. Let us pray for the success of the trip.

The APBC has appointed Rev. Fr. U. Balashoury (Diocese of Vijayawada)and Rev. Fr. S. Isaac (Diocese of Khammam) as Director and Administrator of Amruthavani respectively. The new team will take charge of Amruthavani from 1st of June 2011. Rev. Fr. N. David Raju and Rev. P. Rayappa, who have served the Centre since 2003, will be going back to their respective dioceses to take up the new assignments. All the very best to Rev. Fathers in their new responsibilities.

Bishop Thumma Bala was installed on May 5 as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Hyderabad by the Apostolic Nuncio to India, Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio at a ceremony attended by nearly 7,000 people. The newly-installed archbishop said he would follow the preaching of Christ and strive hard to share love and peace with the people. Noting that his motto would be ‘to work in charity and in unity’, Archbishop Bala said he would try to fulfil the works of his predecessor. The Holy See appointed Most Rev. Mallavarapu Prakash, the bishop of the of Vijayawada, as the Apostolic Administrator of the diocese of Eluru with immediate effect from 19th of of August 2009. The diocese of Eluru fell vacant after the death of Bishop John. Bishop Prakash will look after the diocese of Eluru until the new bishop is appointed. Let us pray for Bishop Prakash that God may give him strength to discharge his duties as Apostolic Administrator and pave the way for a good shepherd for Eluru. Let us also pray for the diocese of Eluru that God may give the diocese a good shepherd after His own Heart to understand and work for the people of the area.

The origin of Amruthavani Communications Centre goes back to some chance happenings in the early 1960s. Around that time, Fr. Arulappa, the late Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, was sending out from Madras free Telugu publications and information about Christ, to interested Telugu non-Christians. Because of the rapid increase in the number of such requests and because of the realization that the requests of the Telugus must be met from Andhra Pradesh itself, Fr. Arulappa approached the Fathers of St. John’s Seminary, then located at Nellore, inviting them to take up this apostolate. Formore....
